The Markham Creates challenge is divided into four artistic disciplines: Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Exhibit Design and Creative Writing. Applications must be submitted by Sunday, June 14.

Yard Material – Schedule Reinstated to start April 21

The yard waste collection schedule has been reinstated and will start on April 21.  Therefore, the first yard waste collection for the Royal Orchard area will be April 28th.

In order to utilize resources effectively as a result of Covid-19, Markham has postponed their Leaf & Yard Material collection until the week of May 19th.

Residents are asked to store their yard material on their property until regular bi-weekly collection resumes.

If this is not possible, residents can bring their yard material to the Richmond Hill (Bloomington) Compost Facility to drop off for composting, fees may apply.

Stay healthy and safe!

Upcoming Ward 1 Community Meetings – hosted by Councillor Keith Irish

Councillor Keith Irish will be holding four community information meetings for residents on various topics that affect our community.  These meetings are scheduled from March to May, with the first meeting being held on March 12th.

West Thornhill Phase 3A Flood Control Construction

Out of the Cold Program – Volunteer Needed!

Happy New Year!  Hope you had a wonderful holiday season spent with family and friends.

The Out of the Cold Program is looking for a few volunteers to help with their shelter program from January through to the end of March at the Thornhill United Church (25 Elgin Street).

They are currently looking for a few volunteers to assist in the program on Friday nights for a 4-hour duration from 9:00pm to 1:00am. The volunteer position requires you to sit and make sure the door is opened and closed while clients are reading, sleeping or watching a movie or to ensure that clients have blankets. To help fill the time, volunteers usually read, study or do crosswords.

Below are the number of volunteers needed for the following dates:

    • January 31 – 1 volunteer needed
    • February 14 – 3 volunteers needed
    • February 28 – 1 volunteer needed
    • March 6 – 2 volunteers needed
    • March 13 – 1 volunteer needed
    • March 20 – 1 volunteer needed
    • March 27 – 1 volunteer needed

The polls are now open – you can place your vote from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

What ID do you need:

  • Option 1: Show one of these pieces of ID:
    • your driver’s licence
    • any other card issued by a Canadian government (federal, provincial / territorial or local) with your photo, name and current address.

 

  • Option 2: Show two pieces of ID
    • Both must have your name and at least one must have your current address.
    • Examples:
      • Voter information card and bank statement
      • Utility bill and student card

 

  • Option 3: If you don’t have ID
    • You can still vote if you declare your identity and address in writing and have someone who knows you and who is assigned to your polling station vouch for you.

      The voucher must be able to prove their identity and address. A person can vouch for only one person (except in long-term care institutions).

There are also opportunities for Committee work.

RORA is a volunteer, membership-based organization; our mission is to act as a voice for our community defined geographically by Yonge Street on the West, Bayview Avenue on the East, Ladies’ Golf Club of Toronto on the South, and The Holy Cross Cemetery on the North.
